Sheikhupura crackdown on price violations, fines over 50 lakhs

SHEIKHUPURA, Jul 29 (APP):The district administration Sheikhupura on Monday launched a crackdown against businesses violating government prices of essential commodities.
According to DC Office, acting on the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Deputy Commissioner Sheikhupura Dr. Waqar Ali Khan, additional deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and price control magistrates have been conducting extensive inspections across the district.
So far, 29,493 shops and bakeries have been checked for compliance with the officially fixed prices of bread and other baked goods. The authorities have imposed fines totaling more than 50.72 million PKR on 2,415 shopkeepers found violating the price regulations.
Additionally, FIRs have been registered against 36 shopkeepers, and 28 have been detained.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Waqar Ali Khan stated that during the month of July, a total of 48,494 shops were inspected, resulting in fines exceeding 31.23 million PKR and cases filed against 9 shopkeepers.
The district administration has directed all assistant commissioners, price control magistrates, and other officers to ensure the sale of bakery items, meat, bread and other essential commodities at the official rates. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Waqar Ali Khan warned that strict action including heavy fines will be taken against those found violating government orders.
