HYDERABAD, Jul 08 (APP):The Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry (HCSTSI) has extended its appreciation to Federal Government for announcing Rs 5 billion development package for Hyderabad.
HCSTSI describing it a golden opportunity has emphasized that this entire amount must be strictly spent on essential urban infrastructure rather than short-term or cosmetic projects.
HCSTSI President Muhammad Saleem Memon highlighted that Hyderabad has suffered for decades due to the dilapidated condition of its civic infrastructure.
The city’s sewerage system, which is over 50 years old, has outdated pipelines in several areas.
Many of the balancing systems and drainage pumps are either completely non-functional or have exceeded their service life, requiring urgent replacement and rehabilitation.
He further pointed out the alarming shortage of clean drinking water in many parts of the city. Contaminated water is being supplied to numerous localities, causing serious health risks and the spread of waterborne diseases.
He added that the condition of the electricity infrastructure under Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) is equally worrisome.
Light rainfall or mild wind often causes feeder breakdowns, resulting in long power outages. Fault repairs are unnecessarily delayed due to lack of adequate staff, aging transformers and outdated technology, which severely impacts residential life, industrial operations and commercial activity.
HCSTSI President urged that this development package should be exclusively used in three key sectors: the up-gradation of electricity infrastructure, complete overhauling of the sewerage and drainage systems, and the restoration and expansion of clean water supply schemes.
He urged that these funds must not be diverted to superficial beautification, short-term road repairs, or other decorative projects that do not address Hyderabad’s core issues.
The Chamber also strongly recommended that all development projects under this package be planned and executed in consultation with local stakeholders, particularly HCSTSI, to ensure community participation and transparency.
Additionally, the Chamber proposed that all tenders, monitoring reports, and completion updates be made public to prevent misuse of funds and ensure accountability.
Saleem Memon concluded by stating that if these funds are used wisely and transparently, this package could significantly transform Hyderabad’s future.
The enhancement of basic civic services will not only improve the daily lives of residents but will also create a more favorable environment for economic activity and business growth, ultimately contributing to the national economy.
