RWMC conducts cleanliness drive around Masajids

RAWALPINDI, Oct 31 (APP): Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) on Friday carried out its cleanliness drive in various areas of the division, besides creating awareness among the people about the importance of cleanliness.
According to the RWMC spokesman, the company’s sanitary staff thoroughly cleaned and sprinkled water and lime powder around the masajids of the division on the occasion of Juma prayers.
The communication and social mobilisation teams visited various city Masajids and appealed to the Imams to broadcast the cleanliness message among the public in their sermons.
He said that during the cleanliness campaign the teams collected and disposed of hundreds of tons of garbage and appealed to the people not to throw garbage in open, “Put it in the dustbin or waste bags and hand it over to workers”, adding the objective of the activity was to reach out to a maximum number of people, to educate the general public about the hazards of dirty environment.
The teams also ensured the spraying of water and soil scraping in various areas to prevent dust.
He stated that promoting tree plantation was vital for reducing smog and mitigating environmental pollution.
In a message, RWMC has appealed to the people not to burn waste and chemicals in the open, as they are the major cause of smog.
The message adds that burning garbage is a legal offence, as smoke and dust contribute to smog, which is harmful to both the environment and human health.
