RAWALPINDI, Jul 22 (APP):The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) was continuously carrying out cleaning and desilting operations throughout the city during the ongoing rainfall spell to ensure the smooth operation of the drainage system.
The Company’s special teams remained actively engaged in cleaning drains, manholes, and drainage channels in various parts of the city. With the help of heavy machinery and a manual workforce, mud, stones, plastic and other waste materials were removed to ensure uninterrupted water flow during rainfall, the RWMC spokesperson told here Tuesday.
Under this campaign, a special cleanliness operation was underway in commercial areas, residential localities, markets, parks, and densely populated zones.
Special measures have also been taken to maintain water flow and prevent flooding in Leh Nullah, Gawal Mandi, Dhok Chaudhrian, Saddar, Committee Chowk, Pirwadhai, Dhok Syedan, Mughalabad and other low-lying areas.
Along with cleaning the drains, the process of immediate lifting of garbage, cleaning of mud and washing of roads was also going on.
He said that the Company’s officers and field staff were inspecting daily and sharply identifying and resolving drainage-related issues.
He said that social and mobilization teams were distributing pamphlets, making announcements in mosques, and engaging community leaders in various areas to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness. He said that awareness lectures and cleanliness-related activities were being organized at schools and colleges to encourage environmentally responsible behavior among the youth.
RWMC has also activated a control room for the immediate resolution of the complaints of the citizens during the rains, where citizens can contact through the helpline 1139 and social media platforms, he added.
