RAWALPINDI, Jan 30 (APP):The Director General of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Kinza Murtaza, on Friday issued strict safety directives for all construction sites in RDA-controlled areas, citing instructions from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman.
Under the orders, all construction sites must be properly fenced or barricaded, equipped with functional CCTV cameras, and provided with adequate lighting at night. Clear safety signboards are to be installed, and workers must strictly follow prescribed safety protocols and standards.
The DG directed the relevant RDA directorates to carry out regular inspections to ensure compliance, warning that violations would invite strict legal action, including the sealing of sites and the imposition of penalties without discrimination.
“Protection of the lives and property of the public and labourers is the government’s top priority, and no negligence will be tolerated,” she said, adding that the measures were especially important amid ongoing development activities and increased public movement near construction zones.
She instructed developers, contractors and site managers to take personal responsibility for implementing the directives in letter and spirit, and said the RDA would engage stakeholders to promote construction safety and strengthen inter-departmental coordination.
In case of emergencies, citizens were advised to contact the RDA helpline at 051-9334904.
