RAWALPINDI, Mar 06 (APP):The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi (MCR), carried out an anti-encroachment operation along Sadiqabad Road on Friday, demolishing illegal sheds and roadside structures to restore traffic flow and public space.
The operation was conducted on the directions of Commissioner Rawalpindi and Director General Rawalpindi Development Authority, Engineer Aamer Khattak, according to an official statement.
During the drive, the RDA Enforcement Squad, assisted by MCR staff, removed unauthorised sheds, roadside platforms and other encroachments that were obstructing the road and pedestrian movement.
Officials also sensitised shopkeepers about the need to preserve public spaces and strictly comply with approved building plans and regulations. Authorities said the operation aimed not only to remove illegal structures but also to improve pedestrian mobility, ease traffic congestion and promote a cleaner and more organised urban environment.
The authorities warned that strict legal action would be taken against repeat violators, reiterating that illegal occupation of public land would not be tolerated.
The RDA said such operations form part of broader efforts to modernise urban infrastructure, reduce congestion and improve the overall appearance of the city. Citizens were encouraged to report illegal constructions through the RDA hotline to help ensure timely action.
The operation was supervised by the Director of Land and In-charge of Enforcement, Ghazanfar Ali Awan. Building Surveyor Aamir Mahmood Malik, along with RDA enforcement personnel and Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi officials.
