RAWALPINDI, Jan 20 (APP):The Commercial Market Traders Association on Tuesday expressed grief over the deadly fire at Gul Plaza in Karachi, blaming negligence by the authorities and calling for transparent investigations and strict action against those responsible.
The Association, in a statement, said the incident had claimed precious lives and inflicted financial losses running into millions of rupees on traders, describing it as a tragedy that could have been prevented.
Vice Chairman Hamad Qureshi, President Malik Sohail Awan, Senior Vice President Raja Aslam Kiyani, Group Leader Syed Taqi Shah, General Secretary Raja Zafar Yousuf, Mahfooz Khan and other office-bearers conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased traders, praying for the departed souls and patience for their relatives.
They said repeated fires in Karachi reflected the failure to improve fire safety standards, rescue services and emergency response systems, warning that the absence of effective oversight had led to a rise in such incidents.
The Association demanded immediate financial assistance for the affected traders and urged the authorities to strictly enforce fire safety regulations in all commercial buildings across the city to prevent future tragedies and protect lives and property.
