LAHORE, Oct 24 (APP):The Punjab government has decided to introduce a formal ranking system for universities across the province in a bid to enhance the quality of higher education and promote healthy competition among institutions.
According to official sources, the initiative will evaluate more than 60 universities in Punjab, with the top 10 institutions to be ranked based on performance indicators. This marks the first time that a provincial-level university ranking framework is being implemented.
The project, estimated to cost Rs. 50 million, has completed its PC-1 phase, and the initial approval process is currently underway. Once launched, the ranking will be updated annually as a permanent feature of Punjab’s higher education monitoring system.
Officials said that future funding allocations and key policy decisions for universities will be linked to their ranking performance. The system aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in academic standards.
Sources added that the ranking mechanism is designed to foster excellence, encourage institutional competitiveness, and elevate Punjab’s higher education landscape to meet international benchmarks.
