LAHORE, Jun 16 (APP):The Punjab government has allocated a significant Rs 1.4 billion for the women development sector in its budget for the fiscal year 2025–26, reaffirming its commitment to the empowerment and inclusion of women across the province.
According to the budget document, Rs 1.05 billion has been earmarked for seven new development schemes, while Rs 347 million has been allocated for six ongoing projects under the Women Development Department.
Among the major new initiatives is the Skill Enhancement through Home Reach Programme, which has been allocated Rs 520 million, aiming to equip women with employable skills within their home environments. Another Rs 120 million has been allocated for promoting women entrepreneurship across Punjab, while Rs 150 million will support economic empowerment initiatives for rural women in the textile sector. Additionally, Rs 161 million has been allocated for the establishment of business incubation centers to foster women-led startups and small enterprises.
In the ongoing schemes, Rs 40 million has been allocated for the reconstruction of the working women hostel in Gujranwala, and Rs 10 million for the construction of a new working women hostel in Muzaffargarh. The Strategic Planning and Implementation Unit will receive Rs 80 million, while Rs 200 million has been earmarked for the establishment of daycare centers under the Punjab Day Care Fund Society, ensuring better childcare support for working women.
