PESHAWAR, Nov 04 (APP):Following the suspension of trade routes with Afghanistan at Torkham Border, the prices of essential commodities including flour and chicken have fallen across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing relief to inflation-hit consumers.
According to traders on Tuesday, the suspension of food and goods exports to Afghanistan has increased the local supply of essential items in markets, leading to a significant drop in prices.
Market sources report that the price of sugar has decreased from Rs. 210 to Rs. 190 per kilogram, while a 20-kg bag of premium flour is now available for Rs. 2,600. Chicken meat is selling at Rs. 320 per kilogram, and gur (jaggery) at Rs. 220 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, prices of pulses have remained stable and vegetables have also seen a slight reduction. For the past 25 days, exports of thousands of tons of food and other goods to Afghanistan have been halted, resulting in an oversupply within Pakistan’s domestic market.
This price decline is being seen as a temporary but welcome relief for residents struggling with persistent price-hike across the province.
