Polio catch-up vaccination campaign to begin from July 14

LOWER DIR, Jul 10 (APP):Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Arif Khan on Thursday reviewed the progress of the recent polio campaign in a meeting and finalize preparations for the upcoming catch-up vaccination drive scheduled from July 14 to July 26.
District Health Officer Dr Muhammad Niaz and EPI Coordinator Dr Wali Khan briefed the forum on the campaign preparations, target population, micro-planning, and the importance of immunization.
The upcoming 12-day campaign will focus on vaccinating children under five years of age against life-threatening diseases.
Under the supervision of Dr Muhammad Niaz and Dr Wali Khan, around 130 teams and 557 health department staff have been deployed to ensure the campaign’s success.
Vaccinations play a critical role in protecting children from serious diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, and hepatitis B.
These diseases can lead to severe complications or even death in young children.
The meeting also included a performance review of the previous polio campaign, highlighting achieved targets and areas for improvement.
Deputy Commissioner Arif Khan directed that all guidelines related to the catch-up vaccination campaign be implemented strictly.
He emphasized deploying experienced health workers during the campaign.
He also instructed the launch of an awareness campaign through print, electronic, and social media platforms before the start of the vaccination drive.
Special vaccination points will be established in village Hujras and Basic Health Units (BHUs), operating under the supervision of expert doctors.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the Health Department’s performance in previous immunization drives.
The meeting was also attended by District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Sanaullah and a representative from the Education Department.
