RAWALPINDI, Dec 08 (APP):A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Pir Mehar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) and State Bank of Pakistan-Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC) Rawalpindi on Monday to strengthen collaboration for the promotion of agricultural finance, financial inclusion, and climate-resilient sustainable development in the Potohar region.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman and Chief Manager SBP-BSC Rawalpindi Rizwan Khalil Shamsi inked the agreement during a formal ceremony which was held at the university. Dr. Farida Faisal, Director of the University Institute of Management Sciences, represented the university as focal person.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives of both institutions emphasized the importance of building strong linkages among academic institutions, financial sector entities, policymakers and agricultural extension networks to empower farming communities, youth, and women entrepreneurs.
They highlighted that such partnerships play a pivotal role in achieving sustainable agricultural growth and enhancing financial literacy in rural areas.
Under the MoU, the two institutions will collaborate in key areas including agricultural financing, digital onboarding and climate-smart agricultural practices. Joint seminars, conferences, field days, awareness campaigns and capacity-building programmes will also be organized for farmers, students and local communities under the agreed framework.
The agreement also focuses on promoting women’s entrepreneurial capabilities and financial inclusion, undertaking joint research projects and policy studies, and providing internship and practical training opportunities for PMAS-AAUR students at SBP-BSC Rawalpindi.
