LAHORE, Jun 01 (APP):The Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) on Sunday held a pre-budget meeting to evaluate the potential adoption of its proposals submitted to the federal government.
Chaired by PFC Chief Executive Officer Mian Kashif Ashfaq, the session focused on the urgent need for policy measures to accelerate the growth and international competitiveness of the country’s furniture industry.
Key proposals discussed included tax relief for local manufacturers, subsidies on imported raw materials, and targeted incentives to promote furniture exports. Stakeholders emphasized the industry’s vital role in economic development, job creation, and reducing dependence on imported furniture.
Mian Kashif Ashfaq stressed the importance of prioritizing skill development programs and upgrading infrastructure to support broader industrial growth. He also highlighted the challenges of high production costs and regulatory barriers, which continue to limit the sector’s scalability.
Expressing optimism, he said that implementation of the proposed reforms could position Pakistan as a regional hub for furniture manufacturing by unlocking the industry’s untapped potential.
The council now awaits the federal budget with the hope that it will include focused reforms aimed at driving sustainable progress in this labor-intensive sector.
