LAHORE, Dec 09 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out a major crackdown against adulteration mafias on Monday, destroying 3,000 kg of mayonnaise, 400 kg of ketchup, and 150 liters of substandard sauces during a grand operation in different parts of the city.
Acting on the directions of PFA Director General, Additional DG Operations Amna Rafiq led food safety teams in a coordinated operation in the areas of Band Road, Yousaf Nagar, and Ferozepur Road. The teams sealed three ketchup and sauce production units and discarded 3,550 kg of ready-to-use mayonnaise, ketchup, and sauces.
According to DG Food Authority Asim Javaid, production at the units was halted due to severe violations of food safety laws. PFA teams found that non-food-grade raw materials were being used in the preparation of ketchup and sauces.
The DG further revealed that the units lacked essential records and employee medical certificates. The inspection teams discovered insects, extremely poor hygiene conditions, and food being prepared in dirty, rusted containers, along with substandard storage arrangements.
The prepared sauces were illegally stored in blue plastic drums, in clear violation of food safety regulations. The adulterated products were intended to be supplied across Lahore in attractive packaging.
