LAHORE, May 31 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) shut down production at a prominent sweets unit in Shalimar Town over multiple violations of food safety regulations, during a raid conducted under the directions of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid.
A food team found severely unhygienic conditions, including cockroach and fly infestation.
Expired food items such as Gulab Jamun and biscuits were being offered for sale, while several products lacked manufacturing and expiry dates.
The DG said that a foul odor was observed on the premises. Essential records were missing, food handlers did not possess complete medicals, and no training certificates were available with the staff.
He said the PFA is taking strict action against those compromising public health and such violators will be rooted out. He added that the authority is ensuring compliance with food safety regulations across Punjab to provide safe and healthy food to the public.
The DG urged citizens to report food-related violations on PFA’s 1223 helpline, stating that public cooperation is vital in the fight against food adulteration.
