MUZAFFARGARH , Jan 22 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized a tanker carrying around 15,000 litres of oil prepared by melting animal fats during a raid on Jhang Road on Wednesday.
According to an official spokesman, the action was carried out on a tip-off as the substandard oil was being supplied to markets in the district and surrounding areas.
He said City police station was informed about the seizure and an FIR was registered against the driver, who was taken into custody.
The spokesman added that the inferior oil was also being supplied to some small factories where it was stored, refined and then packed under different company labels before being sent to the market.
He said the PFA had launched further investigation against the network involved in the illegal activity, terming it a serious crime that endangered public health.
Samples of the seized oil were sent to the PFA laboratory for testing to determine other health-related irregularities.
Director General PFA South Punjab Muhammad Asim Javed said food safety teams were actively working to ensure the supply of pure and healthy food to the people and warned that strict action would continue against those involved in adulteration.
