PFA finalises Ramadan food safety action plan

LAHORE, Feb 09 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has finalised a comprehensive Ramadan action plan to ensure the provision of safe, hygienic and quality food during
Sehr and Iftar across the province.
Chairing a meeting here on Monday, PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid said that strict monitoring would be carried out throughout Ramadan at Sehr and Iftar points, including food and ration prepared under the Nigehban Dastarkhwan Programme, while special food safety teams would perform duties in three shifts during Sehr, Iftar and late-night hours.
The DG said food handlers working at cooking centres would undergo training and medical screening, and food safety kits would be provided before the start of Ramadan. He added that duties had been assigned to directors, deputy directors and field teams across Punjab for effective enforcement.
He said the PFA bike squad would remain active in streets and neighbourhoods to check Iftar points, while dairy shops and suppliers would be inspected before Sehr. He added that strict action would be taken against the use of substandard ingredients and unhygienic food preparation, and that selling uncovered ready-to-eat food items was prohibited.
Muhammad Asim Javaid said surprise inspections of Sehr and Iftar points would continue to maintain food quality, while the PFA Public Relations Wing would run a social media awareness campaign featuring guidance from nutrition experts. He said all available resources would be utilised to ensure quality food during Ramadan in line with the directives of the Chief Minister Punjab.
