PFA discards substandard soft drinks, pickles

MULTAN, Jul 22 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) claimed on Tuesday to have seized 1,100 liters substandard soft drinks and 350 kg fungus-infested pickles and fruit preserves
in nearby localities.
The food safety teams raided at Basti Ali Wala and Dera Mohammadi near Muzaffargarh road and seized 1,100 liters substandard soft drinks and 350 kg fungus-infested pickles and fruit preserves, respectively.
The beverage facility was reportedly producing low-quality soft drinks using artificial ingredients and hazardous additives. Meanwhile, the preserves unit was found using rotten mangoes and foul-smelling raw materials to prepare jam-like products.
The authorities also discovered open and banned additives being mixed in the preparation of pickles, in violation of food safety laws.
The PFA imposed Rs 200,000 on the beverage plant and Rs 50,000 on the pickle & preserve unit.
All confiscated materials were disposed of on the spot.
