LAHORE, Feb 01 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) discarded 5,800 kilograms of substandard meat, 1,000 litres of adulterated milk, 100 kilograms of khoya, along with syrup and other prohibited items during operations conducted across Lahore.
During the crackdown, food safety teams, acting on the directions of Director General Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Asim Javaid, checked 59 meat-carrying vehicles and inspected 238 milk suppliers and dairy shops. Heavy fines were imposed on suppliers found involved in the sale of adulterated milk and meat for violations of food safety laws.
The director general said the actions were taken due to non-compliance with previously issued instructions. He noted that inspections revealed foul smell in kitchen areas, broken floors, and stagnant dirty water at several premises.
He added that essential records, along with medical and training certificates of workers, were found missing. Inspectors also observed dirty freezers, rusty walls, and the presence of insects, indicating poor hygiene conditions.
Asim Javaid said the Punjab Food Authority remains committed to ensuring the quality and safety of milk, meat, and other essential food commodities. He reiterated that marathon operations under a zero-tolerance policy against food adulteration are continuing.
He urged food business operators to strictly implement SOPs and food laws, adding that operations against health-adulterating elements are being carried out round the clock on the orders of the Chief Minister Punjab.
