RAWALPINDI, Mar 18 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out a major crackdown against the sale of gutka in Rawalpindi, destroying around 12,000 sachets and registering cases against two traders, a spokesman said on Wednesday.
The operation was conducted in the Ganjmandi area, where PFA teams seized gutka sachets worth approximately Rs200,000 from two traders and disposed of them on the spot.
The spokesman said the sale and purchase of gutka had been completely banned across the province, but the hazardous substance was still being sold illegally, prompting strict action.
He said cases had been registered against both traders at the relevant police station.
He warned that gutka posed serious health risks and could cause oral cancer and various stomach diseases, adding that a zero-tolerance policy was being enforced to eliminate its sale.
The PFA urged citizens to report any such illegal activity on its helpline 1223 to ensure timely action against those involved.
The spokesman said operations against violators would continue without interruption and no leniency would be shown to those flouting the law.
