PFA cracks down on adulterated milk,Rs. 41,000 fine imposed

CHINIOT, May 31 (APP):In a significant operation, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) in Chiniot has taken decisive action against milk adulteration and the use of harmful chemicals in food products.
Under the leadership of Deputy Director Operations Dr. Muhammad Qasim Raza, a raid was conducted at a milk collection center in Lalian, where 310 liters of milk adulterated with banned substances were destroyed on the spot.
A case was registered against the accused at Muhammad Wala Police Station under the Punjab Food Authority Act and the accused were arrested on the spot. In addition, the Deputy Director has started action against calcium carbide.
The Deputy Director Operations said that prohibited calcium carbide is used to artificially ripen mangoes, which can cause stomach ulcers as well as cancer.
In this context, food safety teams headed by the Deputy Director Operations checked the stocks of mangoes in the markets and due to the presence of calcium carbide, more than 60 kg of calcium carbide was seized. Mangoes cooked with carbide were destroyed.
In addition, 114 inspections were conducted by food safety teams across the city and fines of Rs. 41,000 were imposed.
