LAHORE, Oct 21 (APP): SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry former president Iftikhar Ali Malik lauded the recently ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, describing it as a vital step towards durable peace and sustainable economic growth in the region.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, he said the truce, facilitated through the diplomatic efforts of Türkiye and Qatar, marks a highly welcome development that would pave the way for long-term regional stability and prosperity.
He noted that the business communities of both countries have long aspired for a peaceful environment conducive to trade, investment, and connectivity projects.
“With the cessation of hostilities and improved border coordination, trade volumes are expected to rise, transport corridors to reopen, and joint ventures in energy, food, and infrastructure to revive,” he added.
Iftikhar Ali Malik appreciated Kabul’s commitment not to support any elements involved in terrorist activities against Pakistan, urging that this pledge be translated into concrete action to build mutual trust and confidence.
He also commended the constructive roles played by Türkiye and Qatar in mediating the peace initiative, saying their efforts exemplify the strength of Islamic unity and diplomacy.
