Over 98,000 issued challans for traffic violations in May: CTO Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Jun 03 (APP): Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi Beenish Fatima on Tuesday said the City Traffic Police (CTP) issued over 98,000 challan tickets for various traffic violations last month.
At the same time around 26,000 citizens were provided with fresh driving licenses in May, she said in a statement.
The CTO said a total of 98,239 challan tickets were issued across the district, including 16,570 to motorcyclists for not using helmets, 2,766 to underage drivers, and 11,513 for for negligent and careless driving.
About 6,831 vehicles were challaned for disrupting traffic, while challans were also issued for lane and line violations, she added.
Similarly, she said, 938 challan tickets were issued for one-way violation, 323 for traffic signal violation and 835 for wrong parking.
Likewise, the CTO said, 2,181 public service vehicles (PSVs) were challaned for running without route permits and 2,147 for having no fitness certificates.
About 230 challans were issued for vehicles emitting smoke, she added.
The CTO said 13,969 drivers were challaned for using fancy number plates and 3,682 for driving vehicles without registration, while 3,043 were given challan tickets for tinted windows of their vehicles.
Beenish Fatima said 235 first information reports were also registered while taking legal action against violations of various traffic rules.
She said as a sizable number of challans, i.e. 19,536 were issued for driving without a licence, the CTP intensified its drive for issuing fresh licenses to the citizens.
Last month, she said, some 25,679 citizens were provided with fresh driving licenses and 129,550 benefitted from other licensing-related facilities.
She noted that in May, the CTP’s Education Wing provided awareness on road safety to more than 5,500 people at various schools, colleges, universities, bus stands and other places regarding traffic rules.
According to the CTP spokesman, the City Traffic Police continued its drive to make the roads safe as per Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision of a ’Safe Punjab’.
Some 3,932 challan tickets were issued on traffic law violations on Monday, including 895 to motorcyclists for not wearing helmets, 625 for driving without lincence and 108 for not having vehicle registration documents.
