LAHORE, Nov 26 (APP): The capacity-building drive for the Punjab Civil Defence Resilience Corps continues under the directives of the chief minister, as more than 250,000 citizens have registered as civil defence volunteers across the province, including over 165,000 men and 85,000 women.
According to the Punjab Home Department on Wednesday, women are registering alongside men in large numbers, reflecting strong public commitment to emergency preparedness.
Secretary Home Punjab, Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, visited the 10th training batch of civil defence volunteers at the Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) to review the quality of training. He was accompanied by Additional Secretary Defence Planning Ayesha Mumtaz and Director Civil Defence Punjab Tasneem Ali Khan.
Speaking on the occasion, the Home secretary said that the department is providing Basic Life Support (BLS) training to volunteers, enabling them to save lives during natural disasters, accidents, or medical emergencies. He said the overwhelming public response shows that citizens are eager to play their role in protecting the community.
Providing a district-wise update, Dr. Ahmad stated that Gujranwala leads in volunteer registration, followed by Faisalabad, while Lahore stands at third place. He added that the Civil Defence Resilience Corps is a major step towards building a safer, more capable, and more responsible Punjab.
The secretary informed that equipment worth Rs 500 million has been procured to modernise civil defence operations. He said civil defence volunteers remain ready to respond in wartime contingencies, flood-hit regions, or during smog-related emergencies. Dr. Ahmad Javed encouraged citizens to join as volunteers by registering on the official portal VCD.HOME.GOP.PK, adding that individuals can contribute in any field according to their skills and abilities.
