Nine killed, one child injured in rain, snowfall related incidents in KP: PDMA

PESHAWAR, Jan 24 (APP):At least nine people killed and a child was injured in various rain and snowfall-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) here Saturday.
The PDMA KP has released a report on human and material losses caused by rain and snowfall since January 22 mentioning incidents including avalanches, landslides and roof collapsed.
The killed included seven children, one man and a woman. Five houses sustained partial damage due to the adverse weather conditions.
These incidents were reported from different districts, including Upper and Lower Chitral, Malakand, Shangla, and Khyber. Following heavy rain and snowfall, most highways that had been closed across the province have now been reopened for general traffic. However, in some upper mountainous areas, few roads remain blocked where heavy machinery is actively working.
The PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations and relevant departments are in close coordination and continuing relief operations. The PDMA has directed all districts to ensure the prompt provision of relief goods to affected families, said that report.
According to the Director General PDMA, relief items have already been dispatched to district administrations as per requirements. These include tents, blankets, bedding, mattresses, kitchen sets, and other essential household items.
The PDMA has also instructed the administration of Lower Chitral to ensure immediate financial assistance to affected families. District administrations have been directed to further expedite relief activities and provide immediate support to those affected.
The PDMA warned that another spell of rain and snowfall is expected in upper districts from Monday night through Tuesday occurring intermittently. The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from visiting sensitive tourist destinations and strictly follow alerts and advisories issued by government authorities.
