RAWALPINDI, Nov 11 (APP):The Murree Administration on Tuesday conducted large-scale emergency drills to prepare for any untoward situation during the upcoming winter season, particularly heavy snowfall.
According to an administration spokesman, the exercises were aimed at testing the district’s ability to reach stranded citizens, move them to safety, and ensure rapid relief and shelter when required.
Senior officers and teams from multiple departments, including Rescue 1122, City Traffic Police, Civil Defence, Punjab Tourism Squad, Highway Department, Health Department, Forest Department, the Meteorological Department, Education Department, Municipal Corporation, WAPDA and other allied agencies, took part with their available resources.
The drills covered road clearance in harsh weather, snow removal, restoring traffic after landslides, and removing fallen trees, poles and wires, along with providing immediate shelter to affected citizens.
The exercises were held on the directives of Murree Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Sherazi. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kamran Sagheer, who oversaw the activity, said ensuring every possible facility and assistance for tourists and residents during snowfall was the administration’s top priority. He added that allied departments would remain on standby round the clock at all facilitation centres to respond swiftly to any emergency.
Kamran Sagheer said such joint drills enhanced inter-departmental coordination and helped prevent loss of life during storms or heavy snowfall. He also instructed all departments to stay on high alert and maintain effective communication.
He later reviewed the District Disaster Management Authority’s emergency core plan for the snowfall season and expressed satisfaction, saying all departments would deliver their services with full coordination and improved strategy.
According to the Murree Administration, the primary purpose of the drills was to assess overall preparedness ahead of snowfall and ensure a timely and effective response to any emergency.
