ABBOTTABAD, Jul 10 (APP):Following the directives of Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Sanaullah Khan, a comprehensive mock exercise was conducted at Jhangra Dam, Havelian, to enhance preparedness and ensure the safety of citizens during emergencies arising from rain, flooding, and dam-related incidents.
The mock drill took place in the backdrop of continuous heavy rainfall across District Abbottabad, which has triggered a flash flood in the River Door and caused the blockage of several connecting roads in adjoining areas of the city, disrupting local traffic and access to various communities.
Assistant Commissioner Havelian, Sameera Mehsud, represented the district administration during the exercise. Key departments including Rescue 1122, Civil Defense, DMS (Health), Police, and TMA Havelian actively participated.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Relief & Human Rights Abbottabad, Amanullah Saeed, supervised the activities on-site and reviewed departmental coordination mechanisms.
The objective of the mock drill was to evaluate the responsiveness, coordination, and efficiency of all relevant departments in managing emergency situations caused by dam overflow, flash floods in streams, and torrential rains. The exercise also aimed to identify potential gaps in readiness and ensure swift action to safeguard lives and property during future calamities.
The district administration has appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities during the ongoing monsoon season.
