LAHORE, Oct 09 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed an appeal filed by convict Muhammad Waseem against his sentence in a narcotics case and upheld his 10-year imprisonment.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Farooq Haider and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa announced the verdict after hearing arguments from both sides. The bench ruled that the trial court’s decision was based on solid evidence and found no legal flaw in the judgment.
During the proceedings, Additional Prosecutor General Abdul Samad represented the prosecution and maintained that the trial court had awarded the sentence on merit in light of witness testimonies and forensic proof.
The defence counsel, however, claimed that Muhammad Waseem was falsely implicated with mala fide intentions, adding that all witnesses were police officials and no independent witness was produced. He further alleged that the quantity of drugs recovered had been exaggerated by the police.
Rejecting the defense’s contentions, the court observed that presented evidence and forensic report clearly established the crime and, therefore, upheld the trial court’s verdict.
