LAHORE, Dec 07 (APP):Lahore had ranked third globally for air pollution, with the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded 209.
According to sources from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), pollution levels in several areas have surged beyond 700.
The Civil Secretariat recorded an AQI of 761, while Barki Road hit 718. Other areas such as Gulberg II, Bedian Road, Askari Ten, and DHA Phase Five also showed concerning levels, with readings of 274, 230, 228, and 206, respectively.
Experts urged residents to take immediate precautionary measures to safeguard their health. They recommend minimizing outdoor activities, particularly during peak traffic hours when pollution levels are at their highest. Additionally, strenuous physical activities outdoors should be avoided as they increase the inhalation of harmful pollutants.
To protect themselves, experts advise wearing a properly fitting N95 or P100 respirator mask when outdoor exposure is unavoidable, as these types of masks effectively filter fine particulate matter (PM2.5), a key component of smog.
