KU Dept of Criminology showcase research, practical projects

KARACHI, Oct 23 (APP): Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi along with Chairperson of the Department of Criminology Professor Dr Naima Saeed inaugurated the Project Fair 2025 on Thursday at the department.
The event featured a project fair where students presented the importance of various aspects of criminology through six thematic segments spread across six rooms.
The exhibition included practical demonstrations on topics such as police station operations, the FIR process, crime scene investigation, cyber policing, cybercrimes, digital forensics, courtroom prosecution procedures, distinguishing between murder and suicide, high profile cases like Javed Iqbal, Noor Mukadam, and other such heinous crimes and cases, the Lyari murder case, and life in prison.
In addition to these simulations, students also showcased research projects exploring the causes of crime and strategies for prevention, offering attendees a glimpse into contemporary research and applied work in the field of criminology.
Informational stalls were also set up to address sensitive and emerging issues.
 These aimed to educate students on critical areas of criminology and equip them with practical skills.
During a visit to different stalls, the KU’s VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi emphasized the importance of such initiatives, calling them essential for providing students with hands-on experience and preparing them for future professional challenges.
He praised the students’ dedication and extended his best wishes for their continued success.
On this occasion, the Member of the National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar also visits the fair and applauds student innovation and research.
He commended the students for their research-driven and creative projects, and encouraged them to continue working with greater dedication and innovation in their respective fields.
Dr Farooq Sattar emphasized that the role of youth is pivotal in the country’s development and urged students to uphold their commitment to national service through their professional contributions.
He further stated that if an individual completes their sentence and returns to society, it is our collective responsibility to accept them and provide equal social opportunities. “We must think not only of our personal well-being but also of the welfare of others.”
The exhibition drew a large number of faculty members and students from various departments of the University of Karachi, who appreciated the wide range of research projects and creative works.
