PESHAWAR, Oct 27 (APP):The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has requested the intervention of the Prime Minister regarding reported restrictions on the inter-provincial movement and supply of wheat to the province.
In a written request to the PM, the Governor highlighted that the province is wheat-deficient and relies heavily on inter-provincial inflows to meet its essential food requirements.
The letter stated that the reported restrictions appear to contravene Article 151 of the Constitution of Pakistan, which guarantees freedom of trade, commerce, and movement among provinces.
He warned that such restrictions could lead to artificial shortages, price escalation, and public hardship, thereby affecting social stability and inter-provincial harmony.
The communication further noted that the restrictions are inadvertently encouraging illegal and informal transportation of wheat, causing market distortions and a rapid rise in wheat and flour prices, which directly burden the general public.
The Governor urged the PM to direct the relevant authorities to withdraw any unconstitutional curbs and ensure the uninterrupted and lawful movement of wheat into KP, expressing confidence that the constitutional rights of the province’s people would be safeguarded under the PM’s leadership.
