KMU organizes practical session on Resilience, Disaster Preparedness

PESHAWAR, Feb 03 (APP): In accordance with the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education, Archives & Libraries Department, Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar, in collaboration with Civil Defence Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar, organized an awareness and practical training session titled “Resilience and Disaster Preparedness – Be Ready, Stay Safe.”
The primary objective of the session was to enhance disaster preparedness, resilience, and effective emergency response among students and staff through hands-on training and practical drills.
The activity witnessed participation of more than 420 students from the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Institute of Nursing Sciences, Institute of Public Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences, Institute of Public Health & Social Sciences, and Institute of Basic Medical Sciences. Faculty members, along with administrative and laboratory staff, also actively took part in the session.
Abdul Nasir, Commandant, Civil Defence Training School Peshawar, along with his team, provided comprehensive awareness to the participants on various types of disasters, personal and family-level preparedness, and essential safety measures during emergency situations.
Emphasis was laid on timely and organized response to minimize potential risks and protect human lives.
To strengthen workplace resilience, participants were guided through a structured building evacuation drill, which included identification of designated emergency assembly points and instruction on their proper utilization.
In addition, a practical demonstration on the correct use of different types of fire extinguishers was conducted.
Students were also given the opportunity to perform hands-on fire safety procedures under expert supervision.
Speaking at the concluding session, Director Academics & Admissions, Prof. Dr. Zilli Huma, stated that the activity reflects Khyber Medical University’s strong commitment to fostering safety awareness, preparedness, and resilience within its academic environment, in line with its policy of developing a safe and responsible educational community.
She expressed her appreciation for the administration and trainers of Civil Defence Training School Peshawar for their valuable support and dedication and presented commemorative shields in recognition of their services.
