KARACHI, Oct 22 (APP):Hamdard University (HU) hosted a formal ceremony on Wednesday to mark the transition of leadership as Prof Dr Imran Amin officially assumed office as the new Vice Chancellor. The event also paid tribute to the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Syed Shabib ul Hasan, in recognition of his years of service and contributions to the institution.
In a statement issued by the university spokesperson, Prof Dr Shabib reflected on his tenure, describing the current period as one that demands a “continuity of change.” He recalled the challenging circumstances under which he began his leadership in 2017.
“When I took office, the university was in dire need of revival we didn’t even have enough funds to pay salaries,”he said. “The year 2017 required a turnaround, and so does 2025. We now need new imagination, a new direction, and new heights.”
Newly appointed Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Imran Amin acknowledged the legacy of the university’s founder, Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, as well as the work of his predecessor. He highlighted the evolving challenges in higher education, particularly in engaging Generation Z students those born after 1996  who often require more interactive and innovative learning approaches.
“To address this, we must introduce train-the-trainer programmes,” he stated. “Educators should create a collaborative environment in classrooms, incorporating visual elements and even using memes where appropriate to maintain engagement.”
The ceremony was attended by senior academic and administrative officials, including the university registrar, deans of various faculties, and heads of departments.
