KARACHI, Oct 23 (APP):Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare facilities across the province, warning that negligence in public health matters would not be tolerated.
Presiding over a meeting of District Health Officers (DHOs) from all districts, Dr Pechuho expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of several officers, particularly in Jacobabad district, and directed stern action against those failing to deliver. “No excuses will be accepted for poor performance,” she emphasized.
The minister instructed DHOs to prepare detailed rosters and micro-plans for vaccinators, clearly mentioning their duty stations and working hours. She warned that strict action would be taken against absent staff.
Dr Pechuho also stressed that all postings and transfers must be based solely on performance basis. “No political interference or recommendation will be accepted,” she said, directing Health Secretary Rehan Baloch to ensure transparency in all departmental appointments and postings.
Announcing the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign from November 17 to 29, Dr Pechuho directed all DHOs to ensure full preparedness.
She instructed that each vaccine vial containing 10 doses be utilized within six hours, adding that wastage would be treated as gross negligence.
Addressing the tuberculosis (TB) programme, the minister ordered the immediate procurement of medicines to address shortages and directed urgent training for paediatric staff in collaboration with the People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) to strengthen TB treatment for children.
On family planning, Dr Pechuho instructed all DHOs to submit coverage reports and ensure the activation of relevant programmes at the district level. The meeting was attended by Health Secretary Rehan Baloch and DHOs from across Sindh, who presented their respective performance reports.
