LAHORE, Jun 01 (APP):The Punjab Police on Sunday killed four members of a banned militant outfit in an intelligence-based operation in the Kot Mubarak area of Dera Ghazi Khan, near the Punjab-KP border.
According to a spokesperson for police, law-enforcement agencies launched a search operation following credible intelligence regarding the movement of khawarij-affiliated militants, who were involved in spreading fear among local residents.
The spokesperson said that as police teams approached the area and cordoned it off, they came under heavy gunfire from terrorists. Police responded with force, killing four khawarij terrorists during the exchange. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the scene, added spokesperson.
Some militants reportedly managed to flee under the cover of dence bushes and nearby terrain. A follow-up search-and-sweep operation was currently under way in the area to apprehend the remaining terrorists.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ghazi Khan Captain (retd) Sajjad Hassan Khan and District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Ali, the spokesperson said.
Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr Usman Anwar praised the successful operation and commended the efforts of the DG Khan police force.
