Four suspects arrested in joint Rangers, SIU operation against extortion network

KARACHI, Feb 09 (APP): Pakistan Rangers Sindh and Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Police conducted a joint intelligence-based operation against alleged extortionists in the Old Golimar area of Karachi.
During the operation, the suspects opened fire on law enforcement personnel. In retaliatory fire, two suspects Rashid alias Chachu and Abdul Haq alias Doctor were arrested in injured condition, while two others Waleed alias Dada and Moiz alias Alert Bacha were arrested without injury, according to Rangers spokesperson on Monday.
Officials said weapons and a large quantity of narcotics were recovered from the arrested suspects.
Rashid alias Chachu and Abdul Haq alias Doctor are linked with extortion mafia groups led by Jameel Chhanga and Abdul Samad Kathiawari. Meanwhile, suspect Waleed alias Dada is associated with a Lyari-based drug trafficking network linked with extortion groups led by Riaz alias Sheena and Zahid Ladla, while suspect Moiz alias Alert Bacha is linked with the Lyari gangster Arshad Pappu group.
Investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly provided information about builders and other businessmen to extortion gang leaders, who later issued threats and collected extortion money. The suspects were also allegedly involved in aerial firing to spread fear in the area when extortion demands were not met.
Police said Rashid alias Chachu and Abdul Haq alias Doctor are habitual offenders and had previously been arrested and jailed.
Raids are underway to arrest their remaining accomplices. The arrested suspects, along with recovered weapons and narcotics, have been handed over to SIU Police for further legal action and investigation.
