LAHORE, Nov 07 (APP):The first phase of technical bid opening under the Chief Minister’s Punjab Development Programme (PDP) has been completed.
The event, organised by the Local Government Department at Town Hall, Lahore, was attended by Special Secretary Local Government Arshad Baig, Additional Secretary Ahmar Sohail Kaifi, Project Director Brig (R) Asad Mahmood, and Chief Engineer Khalid Hussaini.
Special Secretary Arshad Baig reviewed the bidding process, saying that the department was ensuring transparency and merit in line with the vision of the Chief Minister. He added that quality, accountability, and sustainability remained top priorities in all development projects.
Project Director Brig (retd) Asad Mahmood told reporters that technical bids for 34 development schemes in 10 cities had been opened in the first phase. He said that under the PDP, modern sewerage and drainage systems would be developed in 52 cities across Punjab at a total cost of Rs292 billion.
He added that all projects would be executed under the provincial Annual Development Programme (ADP) and were expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months. The programme also includes solarization of disposal stations and construction of underground water storage tanks to prevent urban flooding. “Solar-powered pumping stations will help reduce energy consumption,” he noted.
Brig (retd) Mahmood said the PDP provides a comprehensive urban infrastructure plan, and upon completion, there would be no need for new development schemes in these cities for the next 25 years.
Chief Engineer Khalid Hussaini explained the technical stages of the bidding process, noting that all procedures were being carried out according to international standards to ensure durable and high-quality urban facilities.
