LAHORE, Jun 1 (APP):As Eid-ul-Azha approaches, a festive hustle has gripped the provincial capital, with thousands of citizens flocking to cattle markets in search of sacrificial animals. Six major cattle markets across Lahore, including the bustling Kahna Kacha Bakar Mandi and Tehsil Nishtar, are now fully operational, offering facilities aimed at easing the experience for both buyers and traders.
Authorities have ensured that lighting arrangements in these markets are fully functional, with ample illumination extending into the night to accommodate the large influx of visitors. Essential amenities such as clean drinking water and sanitation facilities have also been provided to ensure a more comfortable environment.
Parking management has been streamlined under the supervision of LePark and the city traffic police. To maintain smooth traffic flow, especially around the Ring Road, parking along the roadside has been strictly prohibited.
Designated parking zones have been set up by law enforcement to avoid congestion and maintain public safety.
The district administration, in collaboration with the police and various departments, has reportedly pulled together comprehensive arrangements to ensure a seamless Eid experience.
During a recent inspection, Lahore Divisional Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood visited several service camps set up by the Livestock Department, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), Rescue 1122, and other civic bodies.
Accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Wahga, the Commissioner reviewed facilities including tents, power supply, water availability, and public restrooms.
He paid special attention to the Livestock Department’s camp, inspecting veterinary supplies, anti-parasitic sprays, and verifying the presence of medical staff.
His visit underscored a commitment to providing hygienic and medically supervised conditions for the animals.
Deputy Commissioner Lahore emphasized that ensuring top-quality facilities for citizens and traders remains a top priority.
On the law and order front, Inspector General Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar has directed the force to maintain a high state of alert during Eid-ul-Adha. Chairing a meeting to assess security preparedness, the IG called for tightened surveillance, rigorous checking of suspects, and enhanced protection of cattle markets.
He further instructed officers to use CCTV cameras and e-police tools to conduct search and sweep operations and verify criminal records.
Meanwhile, markets such as Shahpur Kanjran and Sagian are witnessing soaring activity. Foot traffic has surged in recent days, matched by a sharp spike in livestock prices.
Many buyers, while eager to fulfill the religious obligation, are voicing concern over the affordability of animals this year, pointing to significant price hikes across the board.
Despite the challenges, Lahore’s preparations reflect a determined effort by city officials to balance tradition, security, and public convenience in one of the busiest seasons of the year.
