Diabetes awareness walk held at LGH on World Diabetes Day

LAHORE, Nov 14 (APP):Medical experts on Friday highlighted that diabetes can be inherited much like family property passed down through generations, urging individuals with a family history of the disease to adopt a healthier lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and routine medical check-ups.
These views were shared during an awareness walk and media briefing held at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) in connection with World Diabetes Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Farooq Afzal, Principal of the Postgraduate Medical Institute, stressed the importance of timely diagnosis and preventive care to curb the rising prevalence of diabetes. He emphasized that early detection can significantly reduce the risk of complications associated with the disease.
To facilitate public awareness, the hospital administration organized a free medical camp where attendees received complimentary blood sugar tests. In a gesture to promote regular health check-ups, Prof. Farooq Afzal also underwent a blood sugar test.
Prof. Khurram Saleem noted that World Diabetes Day serves as a reminder of the increasing global burden of diabetes and the need for community-level awareness. Dr. Muhammad Maqsood explained the potential complications of the disease and highlighted preventive measures individuals can adopt to protect themselves.
Participants of the walk carried banners promoting diabetes prevention and healthy lifestyle choices. Later, Prof. Farooq Afzal distributed informative pamphlets among patients and their families, emphasizing the value of proactive care.
The event was attended by MS Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, Prof. Khurram Saleem, Prof. Shandana Tariq, Dr. Aziz Fatima, Dr. Muhammad Maqsood, Dr. Jafar Hussain, Dr. Umar Ejaz, Dr. Abdul Aziz, Dr. Ehsan ul Haq, Dr. Amara Akhtar, Dr. Faiza, Dr. Anam Batool, Nursing Superintendent Saima Fateh, as well as a large number of nurses and healthcare professionals.
