FAISALABAD, Dec 06 (APP):The district administration has accelerated a citywide operation to desilt roadside drains and cover all open drains to enhance public safety, improve sanitation and prevent road hazards.
A spokesman for the administration said that teams of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and Municipal Corporation have been mobilized across major roads as part of the ongoing cleanliness and urban management initiative.
He said that desilting work by WASA teams is actively underway along Jaranwala Road while drain-covering operations are progressing on Sargodha Road and Millat Road.
Special emergency measures are also being taken to immediately cover open drains near schools to ensure safety of children and pedestrians, he added.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar visited Jaranwala Road to inspect the progress and supervised the operations at Abdullahpur Chowk and Tezab Mills Chowk where drains are being cleaned and covered.
During visit, he directed the teams to remove garbage and silt dumped along the roadside and ensure its immediate transfer to the designated dumping site. In compliance with the instructions, Suthra Punjab teams deployed machinery to promptly clear the roadway.
The commissioner emphasized that silt and waste must be removed simultaneously during the desilting process to avoid inconvenience to the pedestrians.
He instructed WASA and Municipal Corporation teams to expedite completion of both desilting and drain-covering tasks, ensuring that all urban drainage points are made safe, covered and fully functional at the earliest.
