DC chairs meeting on Muharram arrangements

LAHORE, Jun 11 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza, chairing a meeting at his office on Wednesday, reviewed the arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, particularly preparations for processions and Majalis on Ashura.
Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) Chief Officer Shahid Abbas Kathia, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Muhammad Jafar Chaudhry, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance) Mudassar Nawaz, and organisers of Muharram events participated in the meeting. The organisers promised full cooperation with the district administration and highlighted the importance of transparency in the allocation of the budget and efficient administrative measures. They also appreciated the proactive initiatives of DC Musa Raza in ensuring smooth arrangements.
MCL Chief Officer Shahid Abbas Kathia assured the organizers that they would be provided with all necessary administrative facilities.
The DC expressed confidence that the arrangements for Muharram would be completed in an exemplary manner. He added that cleanliness and lighting arrangements at Imambargahs would be ensured across the city. He directed the assistant commissioners to supervise administrative preparations in their respective tehsils and instructed organisers to submit lists of their pre-Muharram requirements to facilitate timely coordination and support.
Meanwhile, the district administration intensified its crackdown on rooftop travel on buses, imposing Rs. 40,000 fines over the past 24 hours. Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Musa Raza, assistant commissioners and the RTA secretary conducted enforcement operations across the city.
An awareness campaign is also underway to discourage this dangerous practice. The DC emphasized that protecting citizens’ lives is a top priority and warned that strict action will continue without discrimination. Citizens have been urged to avoid rooftop travel, and transporters have been directed to meet their legal and social responsibilities.
