The meeting focused on issues faced by the trader community and other matters of regional importance.
According to the forum’s president, the delegation included Mahmood Khan, Muhammad Arshad Baloch, Muhammad Ismail Awa, Muhammad Khan Niazi, Sher Muhammad Mehsud, Haseebullah, Haji Amanullah, Muhammad Irfan Baitani and Haji Ghulam Subhani.
During the meeting, the traders informed the governor that electricity load-shedding in Dera Ismail Khan has increased to 18–20 hours daily.
They pointed out that power theft in commercial areas was almost zero, yet traders continue to face severe and unjustified load-shedding, badly affecting business activities.
Taking immediate notice of the concerns, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi contacted the Chief Executive Officer of PESCO and conveyed the traders’ grievances and demands.
The delegation also highlighted the absence of permanent buildings for NADRA and the State Bank of Pakistan in the DI Khan division, the delayed completion of the Indus Highway from Paroa to Taunsa, Dera Ghazi Khan and Kashmore, and hurdles in the supply of wheat flour from Punjab.
Addressing the issue of flour supply, the governor said he had spoken with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who was making serious efforts to restore the supply from Punjab at the earliest.
Governor Kundi said that the Chashma Lift Canal project was part of the government’s agenda and that work on the project would soon begin on modern lines.
He added that progress was also underway on the Dera Ismail Khan Airport, which he described as a vital project for improving connectivity and promoting economic activity in the region.
The governor further said that the SIUT Hospital project, initiated under the leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, would significantly strengthen healthcare services in Dera Ismail Khan. He also announced that approval has been granted for the establishment of a Danish School in the district to provide quality education to deserving students.
