Commissioner reviews civic services, urban cleanliness

LAHORE, Dec 29 (APP):Commissioner Marryam Khan, chairing a comprehensive divisional meeting at her office on Monday, evaluated the performance of district administrations in providing civic facilities, including cleanliness, manhole covers, public washrooms at petrol pumps, street lighting, and urban beautification initiatives.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioners of all four districts including, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Kasur, presented detailed briefings on their respective areas. Commissioner Marryam Khan noted that of the approximately 21,000 potholes identified in Lahore, nearly 19,000 have been repaired, highlighting significant progress in urban maintenance. She added that executive public washrooms are being activated at major petrol pumps to enhance public convenience and hygiene.
The Commissioner instructed district administrations to ensure that all KPIs set by the Punjab government are actively monitored and responded to. She directed officials to prepare separate lists and SOPs for open drains in both rural and urban areas, display cleaning schedules publicly, collect feedback, and ensure staff accountability. Clear boards must be installed on drains, and warning or penalty notices issued for littering, she emphasized.
Commissioner Marryam Khan also reviewed market beautification plans for all districts and stressed the importance of planning PHAs in districts outside Lahore on solid, practical grounds. She reiterated that the Chief Minister Punjab’s priority is timely and uniform service delivery for citizens and directed that cleanliness standards across all cities must be consistent and transparent.
The meeting highlighted ongoing projects by PHAs and WASA in expanding urban areas, including improvements in infrastructure and public utilities. Commissioner Marryam Khan emphasized that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing civic amenities, improving quality of life, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment for residents.
The meeting was attended by DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza, Additional Commissioner Hamid Mehmood Malhi, DC Sheikhupura Shahid Imran Marth, DC Nankana Rao Tasleem Akhtar, DC Kasur Asif Raza, and AC G Wajiha Samreen.
