LAHORE, Nov 12 (APP): Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan chaired a meeting regarding the Suthra Punjab and Clean Lahore campaign, directing the launch of a one-week public awareness drive to promote cleanliness across the division.
She instructed that banners and warning notices be displayed at various points to discourage littering in open areas and to educate citizens about proper waste disposal. She said that in the first phase, awareness activities will be carried out in selected union councils and areas of Lahore and other districts.
Commissioner Marryam Khan emphasized that during the first week, only warnings will be issued to violators, while from the second week onwards, on-the-spot fines will be imposed strictly in accordance with the law. “Penalties should be based only on solid and digital evidence,” she added.
Briefing the meeting, CEO Lahore Waste Management Company Babar Sahibdin informed
that under the Suthra Punjab initiative, 20 special squads have been mobilized to monitor
cleanliness in different areas. The scope of these squads will be gradually expanded after
the initial phase.
The Commissioner directed that the campaign be launched simultaneously in all districts,
with dedicated squads activated in designated union councils and areas. She stated that
“Cleanliness is among the top priorities of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif,
and there will be no compromise on maintaining hygiene standards.”
Marryam Khan further said that enforcement of cleanliness laws would be supported through the district Safe Cities cameras, ensuring transparency and accountability. “A clean and healthy city is the right of every citizen, and both the administration and the people must play their part in achieving it,” she added.
The meeting was attended by CEO LWMC Babar Sahibdin, all Deputy Commissioners of the division, and Additional Commissioner (Coordination).
