SUKKUR, Jan 20 (APP):The Divisional Commissioner Sukkur, Abid Salim Qureshi, visited the Thari Mirwah on Tuesday, where he inaugurated a two day cultural fair. The fair included women’s handwoven accessories such as hand braided belts, Sindhi turbans, embroidery, handbags, and embroidered clothes.
The event was organized by the assistant commissioner’s office, Indus Development Foundation, and other organizations, with the administration and Indus Development Foundation.
Commissioner Abid Salim Qureshi commended the efforts of the women and praised their work at the cultural exhibition, expressing his deep interest. On the occasion, he encouraged women from Sukkur Division and Thari Mirwah administration as well as Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO), saying that when women start earning through their own hard work, it has a positive impact on their entire family and especially on their children’s education. He added that empowering women not only benefits them individually but also brings far reaching changes to society increasing respect for women and including them in household decision making. Commissioner Qureshi highlighted microfinance programs under the Sindh Rural Support Program, which provide interest free loans to rural women, as vital tools for promoting economic independence among women in underserved communities.
The event celebrated local heritage while spotlighting grassroots initiatives advancing gender equity and sustainable livelihoods in rural Sindh.
During the event, Assistant Commissioner Thri Mirwah Dr. Afra Butt, other officials, SRSO, Indus Development Foundation organizers, women, and media representatives attended.
