LAHORE, Jul 19 (APP):In line with the special directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has significantly expanded the scope of the CM Free Wi-Fi Service to enhance public access to digital connectivity.
In Lahore, the number of free Wi-Fi hotspots has been increased from 230 to 430, allowing a greater number of citizens to benefit from seamless internet access. Initially available in just 11 districts, the service is now operational in 22 districts of Punjab, with over 710 designated locations offering free internet access.
The initiative covers key cities including Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock, Hasan Abdal, Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree, among others. Citizens can conveniently access the internet at these public points for essential use.
The entire system has been upgraded to the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology, resulting in enhanced speed, improved stability, and the ability to support a larger number of simultaneous users. To date, over 37.22 million users have benefitted from this service, collectively consuming more than 905 terabytes of data.
According to a PSCA spokesperson, the service is intended for emergency and essential usage, including access to email, online education, the Women Safety App, and emergency communication. Citizens are advised not to use the service for video streaming or entertainment purposes to ensure bandwidth availability for critical needs.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority remains committed to transforming Punjab into a digitally empowered province under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Plans are underway to further extend this free Wi-Fi service to the entire province in the near future.
