QUETTA, Jul 21 (APP):Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the recent double murder of a man and woman in Degari, describing it as a brutal and unlawful act that neither society nor the government will tolerate.
Addressing a press conference alongside provincial ministers, Bugti clarified that both individuals were already married and each had five children, rejecting viral claims that the victims were newlyweds.
Bugti revealed that 11 suspects have been arrested so far, with more raids underway. He also noted that he had instructed the Inspector General of Police to initiate swift action even before the video of the incident went viral.
The Chief Minister took a firm stance against illegal tribal courts (jirgas), which are often accused of legitimizing such acts. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to dismantling parallel justice systems, asserting, “Justice must be delivered through legal institutions, these jirgas have no place in modern society.”
Calling the case a “test case” for the state, Bugti framed it as a chance to demonstrate Pakistan’s resolve against unlawful killings and to uphold human rights, especially in rural areas where tribal customs still persist.
Amid growing misinformation online, Bugti urged the public to verify content before sharing. “This is the age of social media, where falsehood spreads faster than facts. People deserve the truth,” he said.
In a separate briefing, Bugti provided updates on ongoing counter terrorism operations, reporting the neutralization of multiple attacks and the killing of 10 militants linked to the group Fitna al-Hindustan. He assuring the public that the security situation in the province is steadily improving and there is no need for public fear.
“There will be zero tolerance for any elements undermining peace. Our commitment to advancing peace and development in Balochistan is unwavering, and this journey will continue,” he affirmed.
