CM approves Rs12,000 monthly stipend for 5,000 visually impaired persons

LAHORE, Nov 11 (APP):The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has introduced a significant support package to enhance the financial security and social inclusion of visually impaired citizens across the province.
A spokesperson for the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Department announced that the Chief Minister has approved a monthly stipend of Rs. 12,000 for 5,000 registered visually impaired beneficiaries, in line with existing rules and regulations.
The spokesperson also highlighted that provincial authorities had successfully concluded negotiations with representatives of visually impaired protestors. Following directives from Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Sohail Shaukat Butt, senior officers from the department engaged with the protestors, and Director General Social Welfare Tariq Qureshi personally met their representatives to address their concerns.
In a landmark decision, the Social Welfare Department has notified a separate job quota specifically for visually impaired individuals, within the existing 3 percent disability quota. All government departments have been instructed to immediately implement this quota and to advertise all vacant positions reserved for persons with disabilities.
The spokesperson emphasized that the Punjab government remains committed to providing meaningful economic relief and social protection to visually impaired citizens, empowering them to live with dignity and greater independence.
