LAHORE, Jul 29 (APP):The British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott called on Governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and discussed ways to strengthening bilateral relations and tackling challenges of climate change during a meeting at the Governor’s House here on Monday.
Governor Sardar Saleem Haider said Pakistan attaches great importance to relations with Britain, adding that the British government’s cooperation in education, health, social and other sector is commendable.
He said climate change is a global issue, stressing despite having minimum contribution in carbon emissions climate, Pakistan has suffered a lot due to climate change. He said that climate change is also having adverse effect on the agricultural sector of the country.
Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said federal and provincial governments are working on various projects to deal with the issue of climate challenge. He said Pakistan has plenty of renewable energy resources. He said that there is a need to bring people towards solar energy to deal with the energy crisis.
The Governor informed the British High Commissioner about the efforts to solarize the Governor House Lahore and universities of Punjab.
He hailed the British government for the water management program started in different districts of Punjab.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, speaking on the occasion, said the British government will cooperate with Pakistan in all possible ways to solve the issue of climate change and water management.
