Breast cancer rate can be minimized with early detection: Experts

FAISALABAD, Oct 09 (APP):The experts said that alarming rate of breast cancer can be minimized with early detection, prevention and proper education about health and self-care.
They were addressing “Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar” arranged by Institute of Home Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF).
UAF Dean Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences Prof Dr Imran Pasha said that being almost half of the total population of the country, women often got neglected in terms of health and personal care. He highlighted that awareness and timely screenings are the strongest weapons against breast cancer. Women must be encouraged to prioritize their health and undergo regular medical checkups, he added.
Director Institute of Home Sciences Dr Beenish Israr said that one in nine Pakistani women fall victim to breast cancer at any stage of life. She said that lifestyle and environmental factors increase the risk of cancer. If disease is diagnosed at early stage, the death rate can be minimized, she added.
Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Allied Hospital, Dr Noorul Wara Rao said that women due to taboos avoid sharing the symptoms of disease and get the medical examination and treatment. Due to this reason, the disease enters into the later stage which is difficult to be cured. If symptoms appear, the women should immediately consult doctor so that timely diagnosis can save lives, she added.
Dr Benash Sarwar said that healthy lifestyle and balanced diet can lower the risk of diseases. She advised incorporating antioxidant-rich foods and regular exercises in daily routine.
